AHA/BHA PEEL

About This Treatment

AHA/BHA peeling is a procedure that is used for the treatment of photo aging skin, deep wrinkles and fine lines, acne scars and to improve the skin vitality, tonus and texture. During this procedure we use different acidic solutions (salicylic acid, lacitic acid, glycolic acid) on the skin in order to stimulate the skin exfoliation, depigmentation and revitalization through promotion of the glucosaminoglicans, fibroblasts and remodeling of the elastin and collagen fibers. For best results, a series of 6 treatments is recommended (one per week).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between AHAs and BHAs?
AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) are water-soluble acids, such as glycolic acid and lactic acid, that work on the skin’s surface to exfoliate dead skin cells and improve skin texture. BHAs (beta hydroxy acids), such as salicylic acid, are oil-soluble acids that penetrate into the pores, making them effective in treating acne and controlling excess oil production.

How does an AHA/BHA peel work?
An AHA/BHA peel is a chemical peel that combines both alpha and beta hydroxy acids. When applied to the skin, the peel exfoliates the outer layer of dead skin cells, stimulates cell turnover, and helps unclog pores. This process can result in improved skin texture, reduced acne, diminished hyperpigmentation, and a brighter complexion.

Is an AHA/BHA peel painful?
During the peel, some individuals may experience a mild tingling or stinging sensation, which is generally tolerable. However, pain levels can vary depending on the individual’s sensitivity and the strength of the peel. Your skincare professional will assess your skin and adjust the peel’s concentration accordingly to ensure your comfort.

How long does an AHA/BHA peel take?
The application of an AHA/BHA peel typically takes around 15 to 30 minutes. However, the total time spent at the skincare professional’s office may vary, considering the preparation and post-peel care.

How many AHA/BHA peel sessions are needed?
The number of peel sessions required depends on individual skin concerns and goals. For mild concerns, a single session may provide noticeable results. However, for more significant issues, a series of peels spaced a few weeks apart may be recommended to achieve optimal results. Your skincare professional will determine the appropriate treatment plan for your specific needs.

What is the downtime after an AHA/BHA peel?
The downtime following an AHA/BHA peel can vary depending on the strength of the peel and individual skin sensitivity. Mild peels may cause slight redness or minimal flaking that subsides within a few days. Stronger peels may result in more noticeable peeling and require a longer recovery period. It is important to follow post-peel instructions provided by your skincare professional to ensure proper healing.

Can I do an AHA/BHA peel at home?
While there are some at-home AHA/BHA peel products available, it is generally recommended to have a professional perform the peel. Skincare professionals have the expertise to assess your skin, determine the appropriate peel strength, and ensure the procedure is performed safely and effectively. Professional peels also tend to be more potent and offer more noticeable results.

Benefits

Exfoliation

AHA/BHA peels effectively exfoliate the outer layer of dead skin cells, promoting cell turnover and revealing smoother, brighter skin. This can improve skin texture and tone, making the skin appear more youthful and radiant.

Acne Treatment

The combination of AHAs and BHAs in the peel can help unclog pores, reduce excess oil production, and target acne-causing bacteria. This makes AHA/BHA peels beneficial for individuals with acne-prone skin, as they can help minimize breakouts and improve the overall appearance of the skin.

Reduced Hyperpigmentation

AHA/BHA peels can help lighten areas of hyperpigmentation, such as sunspots, age spots, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation caused by acne. The exfoliating action of the peel can help even out skin tone and fade discoloration.

Fine Lines/Wrinkles

The exfoliation and skin-renewing properties of AHA/BHA peels can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. By removing the outer layer of dead skin cells, the peel stimulates collagen production, which can improve skin elasticity and firmness.

Brightened Complexion

AHA/BHA peels can give the skin a brighter and more radiant appearance by removing dull, dead skin cells and promoting the growth of new, healthier skin cells.

Improved Skin Texture

AHA/BHA peels can help refine the skin’s texture by smoothing rough areas, minimizing the appearance of pores, and reducing uneven skin tone. This can result in a smoother, more even complexion.
